|1953 Nash Healey in lovely Spanish Red with
tan leather, correct wide whitewall tires, and factory spoke hubcaps.
Exceptionally nice, full restored car with only 58,479 miles, and one of
only 162 produced. These are very unusual cars, built for wealthy
Americans as Nash's flagship after a chance meeting of Nash CEO George
Mason and Donald Healey on a trans-oceanic crossing aboard the Queen
Elizabeth ocean liner. Built from 1951-54, it was the first post-World
War II American sports car, preceding the Corvette by several years, and
sold for double the cost of the Corvette and later, Ford's 2-seat
These cars had a fully stamped passport by the time they were completed with Nash-Kelvinator shipping their engines & transmissions to England where Donald Healey installed them in his Healey Silverstone chassis, which was then shipped to Italy's Corrazerria Farina where Pininfarina fitted his hand formed coach-built bodies, hand stitched leather interiors, and did the final assembly. They were then shipped back to America for sale through the Nash dealer network. They sold for $6,000 at a time when the average American car cost $1400 and the later '54 Corvette cost only $3100. Raced in Europe, a Nash-Healey finished 3rd overall at the 24 Hours of LeMans behind two Mercedes-Benz 300SLs and ahead of Luigi Chinetti's Ferrari.
The original 252 cubic inch LeMans Dual Jetfire dual carburetor 6-cylinder engine has been rebuilt and runs perfectly; no leaks, no smoke, no noises. Starts immediately when the clutch is depressed and settles into a smooth quiet idle. The 3-speed manual transmission shifts nicely and activating overdrive allows relaxed highway driving. Huge drum brakes stop safely and Healey's Silverstone chassis provides responsive handling. Very nice driving car.
Excellent tan leather interior with no marks and no wear. Everything has been restored; the seat, carpets, interior door panels, and headliner. The dash is flawless and holds the 140 mph speedometer, 4500 RPM tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, fuel level, and engine vacuum. The factory steering wheel is perfect and the factory AM radio is in place. Lovely interior.
Perfect body with no dents, no dings, no waves, and I cannot find any patch work or panel replacements. Gorgeous Spanish Red lacquer paint, hand rubbed and polished to a smooth finish. Excellent glass and all windows operate smoothly. Perfect chrome and brightwork. Perfect front grille. The trunk has been correctly carpeted and contains the correct spare tire and its cover. Factory steel wheels with brand new correct 6.40-15 white wall BFGoodrich Silvertowns and perfect factory spoke hubcaps. Extremely nice car and a blue-chip investment.
